Social Café is a gathering place for older adults where a nutritious mid-day meal is served with others. Attendees enjoy meeting up with friends and participating in social activities that allow seniors to remain active and connected to the community while meeting their nutritional needs.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities are available at Social Café for youth, families, and individuals. Activities include setting tables, serving our seniors, visiting and socializing, and meal cleanup.   

Social Café takes place every Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday in Byron from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. 
Volunteers would help with the setup, serving, and cleanup for the noon meal. 

**Volunteer needs to be comfortable working independently. Training is provided.

Through Neighbors Helping Neighbors, we conduct Home Safety Visits, helping to identify potential safety and fall hazards in the home of seniors in our community.

Home Safety Corps

Today, Americans are living longer while staying active and healthy. However, as people age they become more prone to falls leading to injury, loss of independence, and fear of falling again. The good news is that falls are preventable, and aging itself does not cause falls.

Because most falls occur at home, a home safety corps volunteer can help an older adult improve their safety at home by identifying risk factors and making safety recommendations. A corps of trained Home Safety Corps Volunteers deliver this service across Olmsted County. Must be 18+ years of age.

Program: Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Through Neighbors Helping Neighbors, we conduct Home Safety Visits, helping to identify potential safety and fall hazards in the home of seniors in our community.

Volunteers are needed to administer the program, as well as to conduct the Home Safety Visits.  Below is a job description of the role.  Additional education will be provided.

Home Safety Corps

Today, Americans are living longer while staying active and healthy. However, as people age they become more prone to falls leading to injury, loss of independence, and fear of falling again. The good news is that falls are preventable, and aging itself does not cause falls.

Because most falls occur at home, a home safety corps volunteer can help an older adult improve their safety at home by identifying risk factors and making safety recommendations. A corps of trained Home Safety Corps Volunteers deliver this service across Olmsted County. Must be 18+ years of age.

Volunteer: Lawn Mowing Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to mow lawns for seniors and those with disabilities this summer.  Mowing begins as soon as the yard is ready for mowing and ends in November based on need and weather.  The volunteer should be available to mow every 5-7 days early in the season, every 7-10 days later in the season, or as needed and agreed upon with homeowner.  Homeowners may or may not have a lawn mower.  If you are able to transport your mower to a location, please include that in your response.
